US$22,604,770 project to develop local spices industry

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining has embarked on a project, through the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA), with the support of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to develop several of our local spices at a cost of US$22,604,770 over the next five years.

MONTEGO BAY, April 28 (JIS):

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, through the National Irrigation Commission (NIC), has made a significant investment to support farmers in St. Elizabeth with the commissioning of two new water trucks.

The units, each with a capacity of 4,491 gallons and the ability to pump 500 gallons per minute, represent a $37 million investment.

Both units were commissioned into service by Portfolio Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, during a ceremony at the NIC’s Hounslow office in St. Elizabeth on Friday (April 26).

DAMC Complex Being Retained for Agricultural Purposes

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, says there are no plans to use the Agricultural Marketing Corporation (AMC) complex for another purpose.

He made the disclosure during Wednesday’s (April 24) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, in response to concerns arising that there are plans to divest the entity.

St. Ann Farmers Get 5,000-Gallon Water Truck

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, on Friday (April 19), commissioned into service a new 5,000-gallon water truck to benefit farmers in St. Ann.

The $15-million unit was procured by the Jamaica Bauxite Mining (JBM) Limited and will be managed by the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).

Minister Green, in his remarks at the commissioning held at the Lydford Industrial Park, said that the truck will provide much-needed relief to farmers amidst the ongoing drought conditions.
