Less than a week after announcing its temporary closure because of unprecedented conditions created by the coronavirus pandemic, Jines Restaurant, 658 Park Ave., is reopening.

On Wednesday, owner Peter Gines announced on Facebook that starting Friday, the Park Avenue institution will again offer takeout service and outdoor seating under heat lamps. Regular hours will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. (Being in an orange zone, Jines cannot offer indoor dining.)

“We can't thank our loyal customers enough for supporting us and other Rochester-area businesses,” Gines wrote. “Shopping and eating locally has a positive impact and helps us all navigate through these uncertain times. I’m humbled by the outpouring of support and can't wait to serve you again.”

Popular for its breakfasts and serving them all day, as well as lunch and dinner, Jines has been a mainstay at Park and Berekley since it was opened in 1971 by Peter’s father, George Gines, a Greek immigrant. A 2008 remodel that Peter Gines directed doubled the restaurant’s size.
