Hotel rooms are often a haven for guests to try and steal after their holiday is over.

Items such as the free shampoo and conditioner are normally allowed by hotels to be stolen, as they have already been used.

It has recently been revealed some of the most popular items that guests take from a hotel room, with some surprising entries.

Despite it being prohibited by hotels 69 per cent of Britons admit to stealing something when they leave.

The survey by The Telegraph found that the most popular item to be taken, perhaps unsurprisingly is the towels.

Coming in second at 57 per cent were batteries and light bulbs, a somewhat confusing item due to them being available cheaply at most supermarkets.

Others to make the top ten included food and drink (51 per cent), cutlery (45 per cent) and picture frames (36 per cent).
