I just booked via FHR and they charged half my stay upfront. There was zero indication that would happen.

I know that this is not the theme of this thread, but this just happened me.

Booked (in January) via AMEX FHR online for an 8 night stay in AZ for August and was charged yesterday for at least one night (maybe one night plus all taxes and fees. As the charge was higher that 1 night but less than 2 nights)

Nowhere in my reservation did it state this was going to happen

I needed to cancel it anyway as we decided to go elsewhere, which i did, after the fact, when I saw the charge appear

I am staying at Delano in June and had to pay up-front for the FHR rate
I am staying at Fairmont Whistler in May and did not have to pay up-front for the FHR rate

Four Seasons Bora Bora took a 50% deposit a month prior to arrival. No mention of this made during the booking process. It was fine, but unusual.

Las Vegas resorts (at least, Delano and Wynn) require deposits. Wynn/Encore was one night.

I think that's standard for *any* reservation at a big casino in Las Vegas, regardless of FHR or Amex Travel.
And to the extent a deposit is required at other hotels elsewhere, it's also unlikely specific to Amex.
That said, I would have expected it to be disclosed in the fine print when you look at the cancellation policy, but perhaps this is a FHR website fail.

Can confirm Bellagio LV also - 3 weeks ago. Was a 2 night stay, so can't say it it was one night or 50% deposit, but it was charged. No indication in reservation process or confirmation emails/messages that it would be charged,

We just booked a 3 night stay for Palazzo during Easter weekend. FHR website clearly stated nothing was due upfront but we were charged for first night by the hotel. We ended up canceling the reservation today because we decided to switch hotels. The cancelation page says we are due $0.00 for a refund and it can take up to 45 days. Will probably call later tonight and see what the deal is but it's definitely annoying that it's clearly not indicated when you book.
