Don't judge the restaurant by its outward appearance! A great family owned establishment with authentic homemade meals and desserts! I arrived near closing time and all items were still available. It's a cafeteria style setup with friendly family members serving: one person for entrée, one for sides and desserts and one cashier. You can either dine in or carry out. I was going to carry out but chose to dine in and had a wonderful conversation with a family member. And since it was near closing and I was in conversations with some of the family members, I forgot to take pictures of my meal The seating area is decorated like an old one-room church with gospel music playing and photos of the restaurant's founders. I noticed young teens bussing tables and vacuuming once it was closing time. I ordered baked chicken and dressing, mac and cheese and a side of greens. My chicken breast was juicy and well seasoned. The dressing was good but I added extra chicken gravy that took it to another level! The mac and cheese, greens and cornbread were truly homemade

This is not your typical Yelp-Instagramable place. They don't serve the $15 hot dogs that you might find on Mass Ave or foie gras french fries from Broad Ripple. This is a great group of people from the community who get together once a week and make delicious food for the community.
I ordered the fried catfish with okra and black bean soup and it was delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy crust. The okra is sauteed with some peppers which was a new way for me to try it. But my favorite part was the soup--hearty and complex. It was every thing you want and then some.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mrs Jackson M.Indianapolis, IN10130919Jul 25, 2021
What a great restaurant it gave me down south cooking how my grandma use to cook everything was great all the way down to the desserts there was one little thing that irritated me it was the fact they had NO AIR CONDITIONING my fat butt was sweating while I was eating it felt more hot inside then outside but all in
all it was a great trip next time ill just get my food to go .Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 18133354Feb 6, 2022
It's the Lemon Cake for me! It's the Fried Chicken with Greens and Mac n Cheese for me! It's the Peach Cobbler for me! It's the fact that it's black owed, the employees are always friendly and the food is always tasty, which makes it my "go to" restaurant on Sundays.

I can't believe I am writing this review but I just got back from picking up my order. Liver, onions, rice and gravy. The liver was very tuff, barely no gravy and no gravy on the rice at all. Not sure who they have working in the kitchen now but I hope and pray they go back to the drawing board because I use to love this place.

This place felt like home. Every person I talked to (employee or not) were so welcoming. I'm here visiting from Washington, but I watched how everyone inside the building spoke to their regulars like they knew them. We, the customers on the inside, were talking to each other like we knew each other.
This place was the HIGHLIGHT of my trip to Indianapolis. I can tell that Circle City Soul Food is a pillar in this community. And I appreciate them allowing me to be a part of their local community.
Oh! I assumed that y'all knew the food and the desserts were good. 10/10! Order everything... like I did. I bought one plate to eat inside and another plate to eat for dinner! Everything was excellent!!!
For my seafood allergy folks: They do not prepare seafood with the everything else. They are prepared and served separately. And don't ask nobody inside about it. The owners know what they are doing. #LoveYall
I had SUCH A good time eating and hanging out with everyone inside of Circle City Soul Food. I look forward to my next visit.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 5, 2018First to Review
This is one of those hidden jewels in the city. The day I had went, I had not planned on stopping out for food, as I was already cooking dinner at home. However, a couple of the riders in the car wanted to stop here. One of them swore by this place, and talked about how good the food was. I on the other hand was hesitant, as I assumed it would be another soul food place selling the same as all the rest.
I ordered the smothered pork chops in brown onion gravy. OMG! This was heaven! The gravy was so tasty, I wanted to ask for a small cup to go (would've oid for it too). The pork chop was soooo tender, I did not need silverware to eat it, and used plastic ware. I had the option of two sides - I selected mashed potatoes and greens, with an extra side of dressing. The potatoes were really tasty! I thought the greens could use some more seasoning, but was happy they cooked them the way they did. Some souls food places over season their greens, and this place does not! Giving you the option to add your own seasonings if you'd like. The dressing was dressing.. Nothing fancy, but tasty too.
They have a nice selection of desserts, and I was tempted to try the sweet potato cake (huge muffin) that had walnuts (or some but) with a cup of white icing (or something similar).
The sad thing about this restaurant is... THEY ARE ONLY OPEN ON SUNDAY!!!! I was heartbroken to hear this.
I'm just saying for about $10 you can have a wonderful meal that includes two sides.. Grab you a drink and a dessert and you're set!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Milly B.Indianapolis, IN531214May 15, 2021
This place is terrible, I repeat terrible at least that what I experienced back in the summer. I ordered the 3 piece chicken wing, macaroni and cheese and the mashed potatoes and gravy. When I tell you it had 0 seasonings I mean I was surprised how people weren't coming back to complain. I wish they would do better.

I went on a Sunday and it was not very busy. I had the fried chicken, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes. I also had the sweet potato muffin which was my absolute favorite. The food was nice and hot and fresh. And I think I had two dinners for under $25. I definitely will be returning. Highly recommend for soul food in the city.
